Mirco Cavallo tells his story

My name is Mirco Cavallo, and I am an Italian architect. I graduated in Architecture in Venice and, after traveling around the world, I’ve been working in Germany for about ten years now.

Mirco Cavallo tells his story
When I first arrived here and began designing with color, I immediately sensed a certain diffidence. In Northern Europe, color is often viewed with suspicion—seen as excessive, too emotional. But over time, things began to change. People started to realize that color is not just decoration, but a fundamental element in people's lives.

I always like to recall a few quotes that are particularly meaningful to me:
- Kandinsky: “Color is a power which directly influences the soul.”
- Vincent Van Gogh: believed that color had the power to stimulate the imagination and communicate deep emotions.

And it's absolutely true. Color vibrates with us, speaks to us, moves us. It has the power to change our mood, to make us feel alive, welcomed, inspired.
We can design entire spaces using just color—changing the color of an object means transforming the object itself. Color is language, atmosphere, identity.

Another element I consider essential in my work is surprise, joy. A space should never be cold, overly serious, or predictable. It should make people smile. It should create emotion.
Furniture, beyond being functional, has a deeper role: it should surprise us, make us feel good. As the ancients used to say:

“What is beautiful is also good.”

Over the years, I’ve introduced the concept of democratic luxury into my work—especially in the world of gastronomy, including system gastronomy.
In an era where society is increasingly divided into classes, bringing beauty, care, and quality to everyone carries a profound social value.

Democratic luxury breaks down economic barriers, creates inclusivity, and unites rather than divides.

Ultimately, designing beautiful and accessible places is also a political act: it means restoring dignity to all, building a sense of community, and fostering belonging.
